Nenezić: Generals and dukes, steer clear of European Bar – “Secret foreign-funded initiatives are targeting coexistence”

“Dear fellow citizens, I am not writing this reaction as someone who is part of this political scene of Montenegro, but first as a person who is a Bar native and loves his city” — this is how Bar Municipal Assembly chairman and European Alliance official Branislav Nenezić began today, as Vijesti reports. According to him, “we are witnessing an organized effort, through cunning and secret initiatives financed from abroad, to undermine coexistence in Bar.”

Nenezić recalled the city’s historic identity: “There is no Emperor but Bar,” “The city of open doors,” “The city of Vladimir and Kosara,” the battle of Tuxhemila — Bar has been known for centuries as a city of coexistence among people of all three faiths. “Unfortunately, in recent days, these achievements are being trampled by retrograde divisive policies that take us back to a dark past, which we will put back where they belong,” he said, according to Vijesti.

According to Nenezić, some “want the violent ethno-federalization of our municipality, pitting Šestani and Krajnjani, our Bar natives, against each other,” others “take us back to the time of divisions and bloodshed in these areas,” while still others — “who are both the first and the second — play the role of ‘ćaci’ for the needs of elections in neighboring Serbia.” What they all have in common, he stressed, is one thing: “they wish neither our country nor our Bar any good.”

Nenezić called on fellow citizens to ignore attempts at intrigue, deceit and division and to turn to development projects: the start of construction of the national aquatic center with an Olympic pool — “the dream of many generations”; the construction of the panoramic cable car that will connect ancient Old Bar with picturesque Šestani and Krajina; the reconstruction of the road axis from Biskupada to the Çafa tunnel, the completion of the regional road through the Mrkojevići area and many other projects “so that it can truly continue to be said that ‘it is a privilege to live in Bar,'” Vijesti writes.

“Bar has endured much over the centuries, destruction and occupations and various armies, generals and dukes, ‘not these bad copies of today.’ These we will defeat, we Bar natives, as fast as you can say ‘ćaci,'” Nenezić concluded, as Vijesti reports.
