Netflix Drops First Trailer for “Sacrifice” Starring Chris Evans and Anya Taylor-Joy
Netflix has unveiled the first trailer for the action-adventure film “Sacrifice,” which arrives on the platform on October 16, 2026. Directed by Romain Gavras and scripted by Will Arbery together with Gavras himself, the 103-minute film stars Chris Evans as a movie star in the midst of an existential crisis, who is kidnapped during a charity gala by a radical fighter played by Anya Taylor-Joy.
The events unfold during a charity party full of celebrities, billionaires and empty speeches, brutally interrupted by a group of terrorists. They take three guests hostage and transport them to a remote volcano: according to their leader, an apocalyptic catastrophe is approaching and the only way to stop it is to sacrifice three celebrities in the volcano’s crater. The wild premise turns the film into a sharp “eat-the-rich” satire that takes aim at celebrity culture and the wealthy global elite.
Alongside Evans and Taylor-Joy, the star-studded cast also features Salma Hayek, Vincent Cassel, John Malkovich, Charli XCX and Sam Richardson. “Sacrifice” debuted at the Toronto Film Festival (TIFF) in 2025, while Netflix secured distribution rights in May. Early critical reception has been divided: on Rotten Tomatoes the film holds a 37% rating based on 35 reviews, with some critics praising its comedic moments and action scenes, but many others noting a lack of clear tonal focus.
Netflix’s official synopsis describes the film as the story of “a movie star in the midst of an existential crisis (Chris Evans), who is taken hostage by a radical fighter (Anya Taylor-Joy) and her devoted followers…” — a premise that promises action, dark humor and social commentary, in the provocative style for which Gavras is known.
