Nikšić dog shelter scandal: disciplinary proceedings launched against Zoohygiene chief
The director of the municipal company “Komunalno Nikšić”, Nemanja Vuković, has announced that on Monday the procedure will begin to determine the responsibility of the head of the Zoohygiene Service, the shelter managers and the employees of the dog shelter in Brestice, following the publication of evidence of dog carcasses being dumped at that location, as Portal Analitika reports.
“Everyone within the system who, through their actions or inactions, allowed the rules to be violated will be sanctioned,” Vuković said, adding that “Komunalno Nikšić” has no employed veterinarians and that since the shelter’s founding in 2015 it has engaged outside veterinary ambulances for all professional work, euthanasia and the animals’ health protection.
He announced that he will order an immediate and comprehensive internal review of the operation of the entire service. Vuković did not rule out that employees may have made unacceptable lapses in waste disposal, but stressed that it must be determined precisely how decisions about the animals’ fate and the ways of disposing of them were made.
Vuković said he will hand over to the competent authorities all documentation and evidence regarding the case, and that the situation will be used to immediately bring the shelter’s work into line with the highest legal and professional standards.
