OpenAI aims to raise $30 billion at a $1.4 trillion valuation — Bloomberg reports
OpenAI aims to raise at least $30 billion in a new funding round, seeking a valuation of around $1.4 trillion, excluding the new capital, as Bloomberg News reported on Tuesday, citing sources close to the matter. The news is also reflected in Reuters‘ reporting, according to which the fundraising discussions are still at an early stage and the terms of the deal could change.
According to the sources cited by the agency, demand for the new round is being led by the investors themselves. The proposed round would serve as bridge financing, a way to secure fresh capital for the company instead of an initial public offering (IPO). OpenAI did not immediately respond to Reuters’ request for comment on this reporting.
The context of the move is a major round closed in March, when the company secured $122 billion in committed capital at a valuation of $852 billion. Earlier this month, chief executive Sam Altman said the company does not plan to go public in 2026, citing concerns related to artificial intelligence safety.
Meanwhile, OpenAI’s annualised revenue run rate is approaching $70 billion, with growth of over 70% since the start of the third quarter, according to Reuters’ reporting also on Tuesday — an indicator of strong demand for the company’s products, including ChatGPT.
