Podgorica Police Block Rally Honoring Ratko Mladić; 13 People Detained
Montenegrin police on the evening of September 16 blocked a rally in Podgorica where, according to preliminary reports, an homage to Ratko Mladić — convicted of war crimes and the genocide in Srebrenica by the Hague Tribunal — was planned. The news was reported by the Vijesti portal, citing its sources.
According to unofficial data, 13 people were taken to the police station. They were gathered around Jovan Merdović, the “Miholjski zbor” representative for Podgorica.
Vijesti writes that the rally was planned in Masline, from where the group was to head toward Kuče, where a gathering with pyrotechnics, Serbian iconography and nationalist songs had been announced.
Supporters of “Miholjski zbor” have, since Mladić’s death, been spreading tributes to him on social media, viewing him not through the rulings of the Hague Tribunal but through the Serbian nationalist narrative.
The Montenegrin Police Directorate has not officially commented on the event.
