POLAND – Polish Army Recovers a Russian Military Drone from the Baltic Sea

WARSAW, September 14 /ATSH-DPA/ – The Polish army has recovered a military drone from the Baltic Sea, found near the country’s coast, authorities announced today.

Polish Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz said on the social network X that initial assessments suggest it is a Russian-origin military drone.

The drone was found near the coastal resort of Rusinowo, in northwestern Poland.

A spokesperson for the Polish Army’s High Command told the TVN24 television that the device is very likely of the “Gerbera” type.

According to the authorities, Polish air defense has not recorded any airspace violations since July 30.

For this reason, there is a possibility that the drone was washed ashore by the waves, after having ended up in international waters.

Specialists are investigating whether the drone contains explosives. Russia often uses unarmed drones as decoys during airstrikes against Ukraine, with the aim of distracting air defense systems.

Poland, a member of the European Union and NATO, is an important political and military ally of Ukraine. The country considers Russia a threat to its security.

The event comes a day after a Russian drone attack on a train traveling from Kyiv to Warsaw, shortly before it crossed the Polish border.
