Race for Constitutional Court Vacancies: KED Qualifies Llagami and Daci, Rejects Hamitaj’s Candidacy — 5 More Names Under Review

Naureda Llagami and Jordan Daci are the first two candidates to meet all the criteria to continue running for Constitutional Court judge.

The Justice Appointments Council (KED) has barred the candidacy of Lulzim Hamitaj, who has the right to appeal the decision.

Meanwhile, Genc Gjonçaj, Helena Papa, Alban Toro, Arta Vorpsi and Brunilda Bara are in the decision-making process on whether their candidacies will be allowed or barred.

Once KED decides on allowing or barring the other candidacies as well, all candidates will undergo scored evaluation. The three candidates with the highest scores will be sent respectively to the President of the Republic and to the Assembly.

The President selects one candidate among the three names, while in the Assembly all three candidates undergo the voting process.

The two vacant seats on the Constitutional Court were created after the resignation of Elsa Toska and the end of Sonila Bejtja’s mandate.

The procedure to replace the two Constitutional Court judges is beyond every legal deadline.
