Radulović: Montenegro continues aligning its transport sector with European standards
Montenegro has achieved significant progress in integrating its transport sector with the European Union, above all by aligning its legislation with the EU acquis and advancing in negotiations on chapter 14 — Transport Policy, and chapter 21 — Trans-European Networks. This was stated by Maritime Affairs Minister Filip Radulović, who spoke at the “Connecting Europe Days” conference being held in Brussels, as RTCG reports.
Radulović paid particular attention to the maritime sector, stressing that Montenegro continues to align with the requirements of the European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA) and the relevant international conventions.
“Since the beginning of this government’s mandate, we have almost entirely eliminated all the shortcomings in relation to EMSA standards. At the same time, by strengthening inspection control, oversight of maritime navigation is being further increased,” Radulović said.
The minister also underlined that an important part of the overall transport strategy is the development of the Port of Bar as a regional logistics and transport hub.
“Improving port infrastructure, including works to deepen the harbour basin, together with the modernisation of railway and road infrastructure, should enable Montenegro to connect better with European transport corridors,” Radulović said.
During his speech, Minister Radulović announced that over the next two years the focus will be on making the transport system ready to function in the European single market, not only on paper but also in practice.
