Rama: I am not for a “Greater Albania” because I want a bigger Europe
Prime Minister Edi Rama was asked about the European Union integration process, saying the country continues working to close negotiation chapters, while stressing that no concrete date for membership can be set, since the decision does not depend on Albania alone.
“We are in contact and we continue to work. We are on the path to closing the chapters; when it will happen nobody knows, there is no date. Nobody can set a date with the EU. The idea is to do your homework and hope for the best,” Rama said.
During his participation in the Tourism Summit 2026, Rama declared that he supports a bigger Europe and is in favor of enlargement and the inclusion of other countries in the European Union.
“I am in favor of a bigger Europe, not a smaller one. I have never been for the idea of a bigger Albania, because I have been for the idea of a bigger Europe,” he said.
“Canada, welcome, whoever wants is welcome, I see no problem. I welcome this associated membership. I welcome everyone becoming part of the EU. Even if President Trump wants to come, he is welcome,” Rama said.
