“Renoir and Love” breaks the ticket record in London: 22,033 tickets sold before today’s opening

Today, October 3, 2026, the exhibition “Renoir and Love” opens at the National Gallery in London, and it has already broken the museum’s all-time advance ticket sales record: 22,033 tickets booked before the opening, as the National Gallery announced in its official press release. The previous record was held by the blockbuster exhibition “Van Gogh: Poets and Lovers” (2024), with 15,654 tickets in the same period, according to The Art Newspaper.

With 45 works from the mid-1860s to the end of the 1880s, this is the most important exhibition of the French Impressionist in Britain in the last 20 years — and the first exhibition devoted to Renoir at this museum since 2007.

The star of the exhibition is the masterpiece “Dance at Le Moulin de la Galette” (1876), on loan from the Musée d’Orsay, which is being shown in Britain for the first time. The exhibition comes to London after its great success in Paris, where it was among the most visited exhibitions in the history of the Musée d’Orsay.

The exhibition is organised in collaboration with the Musée d’Orsay and the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston (MFA), where it will travel on February 20 – June 13, 2027.

Meanwhile the exhibition has also spilled beyond the museum’s walls: Renoir’s iconic “The Umbrellas” has been turned into a giant mural on London’s Carnaby Street, part of the national collaboration between the National Gallery and Global Street Art.
