Renovated “Stiv Naumov” dormitory opens in Skopje: European conditions for 1,150 students
After two and a half years of intensive work, the country’s most modern student dormitory is ready, as the state agency MIA reports — the renovated “Stiv Naumov” building in Skopje’s Avtokomanda neighbourhood was visited today by Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski, Minister of Education and Science Vesna Janevska, EU Ambassador Mihalis Rokas, German Ambassador Petra Dreksler and representatives of the German Development Bank KfW.
According to the announcement of the Ministry of Education and Science, the works were carried out by the Austrian company Strabag with the support of the EU and KfW. Janevska said that from dilapidated buildings — parts built in 1964 and in the 1990s, once a symbol of neglect — today there are modern facilities with high energy efficiency and the most contemporary technologies, according to the highest EU standards.
The dormitory’s capacity is for 1,150 students, and a large part of those who won a room in the competition have already moved in. Students will live in European conditions, with fully rebuilt rooms and common spaces.
Prime Minister Mickoski thanked the international partners for their support and announced that the second dormitory is expected to open next month, bringing the overall capacity of modern beds to over 1,500 places. He wished the students good work and academic success. For her part, Minister Janevska called on students to use the dormitory responsibly, because — as she said — it is a public good from which future generations will also benefit.
