RIK questions the signatures of the “Ćale ovo je za tebe” list — the legal validity of 125 statements is challenged
Serbia’s Republic Electoral Commission (RIK) debated tonight the legal validity of part of the support signatures for the electoral list “Ćale ovo je za tebe – Petar Đurić premijer Srbije” for the early parliamentary elections of October 25, which RIK had proclaimed on September 26, as the Danas newspaper reports.
The objection against the list was filed by voter Dragan Urošev from Belgrade, who expressed doubts about the legal validity of part of the support statements. RIK deputy member and authorised proposer Miloš Srećković said there is a suspicion that the list does not have the required number of valid statements, because out of the 10,007 statements RIK had verified, 125 of them are suspected not to be legally valid, Danas writes.
Srećković stressed, however, that the filer of the objection presents no concrete evidence for his suspicions of other irregularities, on which RIK could act. According to him, RIK should establish that the electoral list has shortcomings that constitute an obstacle to its proclamation.
At 15:00 RIK members presented a proposal to add to the agenda the verification of the voter certifications of the list “Ćale ovo je za tebe – Petar Đurić premijer Srbije”, a proposal which was not approved, Danas reports.
The development comes 25 days before the early parliamentary elections of October 25, for which RIK has so far proclaimed a series of electoral lists, among them the Student List “Students Win” and the government list “United Serbia”. Today’s objection could put the fate of Petar Đurić’s list back into question if RIK accepts the remarks about the 125 statements.
