Russia and Iran discuss cybersecurity and critical infrastructure protection in Moscow
Moscow and Tehran are expanding their cooperation in the digital field. Delegations from both countries have met in the Russian capital to discuss strengthening cybersecurity and the protection of critical infrastructure, as Al Jazeera reports, citing Iran’s state news agency IRNA. The talks were held within the framework of regular bilateral discussions under the cooperation pact between the two countries.
According to the report, the delegations were headed by the director general for International Peace and Security at Iran’s Foreign Ministry and by the head of the Information Security Department at Russia’s Foreign Ministry. The meeting aims to strengthen the resilience of critical infrastructure and communication networks against cyberattacks — a concern that has grown significantly during the U.S.–Iran war, where attacks on digital facilities have become part of the confrontation.
Besides protection against cyberattacks, the parties discussed the fight against cybercrime, training of personnel for incident management, and expanding cooperation in artificial intelligence infrastructure. Moscow and Tehran have drawn noticeably closer in recent months, and technological cooperation is increasing in parallel with the military support Russia has given Iran.
The expansion of cyber cooperation comes at a moment when the West accuses Iranian state actors of espionage campaigns and digital attacks — accusations Tehran rejects. As the U.S.–Iran war enters its eighth month, the cyber field is turning into a front just as important as the military and energy fronts.
