Šarec: MPs should think about the responsibility they bear — I am not and will not be a tool of any political side
The European Parliament’s rapporteur for Montenegro, Marjan Šarec, addressed the media today with a statement after yesterday’s failed Assembly session, where the dismissal of Assembly Speaker Andrija Mandić was to be discussed. The parliamentary majority denied quorum for the debate, while Mandić himself allowed neither television broadcast of the roll call nor entry of media representatives into the hall.
39 MPs were present at the session, but two others were missing who would have secured the quorum needed for the debate. The opposition has announced it will not cooperate with the government until the requested session on Mandić’s dismissal is held, which has deepened the political crisis in the country.
“I am not and will not be a tool of any political side,” Šarec stressed before journalists. He added that his only interest is for Montenegro to successfully complete the integration process and become the 28th member of the European Union, calling on MPs to keep in mind the responsibility they bear toward citizens and the country’s European future.
The European rapporteur warned that time is running out and that European integration must stand above internal political clashes. According to him, Montenegro’s European path must not become hostage to the current institutional crisis.
