September 30–October 2: Ursula von der Leyen visits Tirana as EU integration takes center stage
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen will visit Western Balkan countries from September 30 to October 2, where she will discuss the partnership on these states’ EU membership path and their gradual integration.
This was announced by European Commission spokesperson Arianna Podesta at her briefing in Brussels.
During her sixth visit to the region, von der Leyen will visit Tirana, Pristina, Podgorica and Skopje, where she will meet heads of state and government and visit EU-funded projects.
“Our Union will not be complete without the Western Balkans,” von der Leyen said at the EU–Western Balkans summit in June, Podesta recalled.
According to Podesta, during the trip the European Commission president will focus on the partners’ further steps on the road to the EU and on progress within the gradual integration supported by the Growth Plan for the Western Balkans.
It was also announced that von der Leyen will visit Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia at a later time, due to the parliamentary and general elections expected to be held in these countries.
