Serbia’s potential quarter-final opponent at the European volleyball championship known: the Belgium–Czechia winner

The potential opponent of Serbia’s men’s volleyball national team in the quarter-finals of the European Championship has become known. Belgium secured its quarter-final spot after defeating Czechia 3–1 (20:25, 26:24, 25:14, 25:15) in the round of 16, thus awaiting the winner of the Serbia–Slovenia clash.

Only one more round-of-16 match remains in this European Championship: Serbia vs. Slovenia, which starts tonight at 21:00 in Turin. The winner of this match will face Belgium in the quarter-finals.

The Belgium–Czechia clash was decided after two fairly even opening sets. The Czechs took the first set 25:20, while the Belgians won the second, a very tight one, 26:24. After the tie, Belgium took full control of the match and won the following sets 25:14 and 25:15.

Belgium is a familiar rival for Serbia: in the last round of the group stage, the Belgians defeated Serbia 3–0 and advanced to the round of 16 as Group C winners. For this reason, if coach George Krecu’s team manages to get past Slovenia, the quarter-final will carry extra motivation — revenge for the defeat by the Belgians.

The other quarter-final pairings are already known: Italy–Finland, France–Romania and Poland–Germany.
