Spahiu: Appeals Court Will Acquit Hashim Thaçi, Just Like Croatian General Ante Godovina

Jurist Kreshnik Spahiu, in a live link on ‘Sot Live në Shqipëri’, spoke about the decision of the Hague Special Court for the 4 former KLA leaders, Hashim Thaçi, Jakup Krasniqi, Kadri Veseli and Rexhep Selimi.

Spahiu stressed that this was something expected from this Court, and that this is only the first battle. According to him, the Appeals Court will grant Thaçi innocence just as it granted innocence to Croatian general Ante Godovina.

“This is the first battle, we should all have been prepared for a loss, because from these judges we could not expect more. This Court, by the way it was built, was not created to grant Kosovo innocence but to establish political balances at the expense of the rights of nations. It was designed against the Albanian nation. The legal battle continues, there is hope. The Appeals Court will grant Thaçi innocence just as it granted innocence to Croatian general Ante Godovina when the First Instance Court sentenced him to 24 years in prison. Hashim Thaçi together with the three others are more favored than Ante Godovina; they have all the legal facts, the facts, the evidence, the witnesses in their favor,” Spahiu said.

Among other things, he underlined that this Court has been subject to diplomatic conjunctures that want Hashim Thaçi in prison. Spahiu also recalled Thaçi’s arrest, exactly 2 hours before he was to head to the White House.

I think this Special Court will be reflected in the Appeals Court. We must be professional as well as patriotic. I am confident the Appeals Court will lead the former KLA leaders toward innocence. Only a signal for political balances has been given. I think this Court has been under the influence of diplomatic conjunctures that want Hashim Thaçi in prison. Hashim Thaçi was arrested at several political moments of diplomatic clashes between Europe and the US.

“Thaçi was arrested two hours before heading to Washington, 2 hours before flying to meet Donald Trump, 2 hours before signing a Kosovo-Serbia recognition agreement that we still don’t have. He is a victim of European and US geopolitics. I am confident justice will dominate over political pressure. Pro-American leaders in Kosovo want Thaçi in prison. To be sentenced to 25 years is to die in prison,” Spahiu said.
