Spain: torrential rains caused “major damage”
MADRID, 3 October /ATSH-AA/ – Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez said on Saturday that the heavy rains have caused “major damage” in several parts of the country, describing the night as “particularly difficult” in Madrigueras.
“The torrential and uninterrupted rains of the last hours have caused major damage in many areas of our region. This night has been particularly difficult in Madrigueras (Albacete),” Sanchez wrote on the American social platform X.
Saying that the government is closely monitoring the situation, the prime minister called for caution and asked citizens to follow the instructions published on the official emergency channels.
“All my support for the family of the woman who lost her life as a result of the floods, and all our support and solidarity for the affected residents,” he added.
His statements came after the authorities warned that torrential rains and potentially dangerous floods are expected in the coming days in eastern Spain, while cold air aloft is moving over warm air.
According to media reports on Friday, one person lost their life and 90 others were rescued from the flash floods in the country, while vehicles were swept away by the waters and homes were flooded in the south-central and eastern regions.
