Tahiri calls on LVV over the Specialist Chambers law: What are you waiting for, are you waiting for violence or escalation?
Besnik Tahiri, head of the Alliance’s parliamentary group, has called on Vetëvendosje (LVV) and the MPs of the Assembly of Kosovo to bring the Draft Law on the Specialist Chambers back into the chamber immediately and proceed it for a second reading.
Tahiri said he sees no reason for this process to drag on, since, according to him, the draft law received the support of most MPs at first reading.
Tahiri warned of the risk of the situation escalating, demanding that the law be brought without delay to a vote at second reading.
“The question is, what are we waiting for, what is the majority, LVV, waiting for. Why does it not bring the law? What more needs to happen, because you see what is happening around the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo; the law passed at first reading with the approval and support of Vetëvendosje, of the Democratic Party as sponsor, of the Alliance, of the minorities — what are we waiting for?”
“Are they waiting for some bigger incident to happen? What? The Alliance urgently calls on Vetëvendosje and all MPs of the Assembly of Kosovo to return to the chamber and bring the law for a second reading. The Rules of Procedure, Article 85 and Article 123, provide for it to be completed at second reading; the public-political pledges have been given, so what are we waiting for? Are they waiting for violence? Are they waiting for escalation? Or what? In short and in plain Albanian, the law must come immediately. The Alliance demands it be brought immediately. There is no justification for the law not to come,” Tahiri declared.
Tahiri also clarified that the current deadlock, according to him, is not linked to any political agreement with the Alliance, but to the issue of the second reading and the president.
“The deadlock is not in a political agreement over something connected with the Alliance. The deadlock is around the reading and the president. We have declared ourselves. We declared ourselves very early. So, we were not invited to a meeting. We have not been in a meeting. We are following with concern the situation in the Assembly of Kosovo and outside the Assembly,” he said.
