The list of the Albanians of Presheva, Bujanovac and Medvegja awaits the RIK decision
Serbia’s Republican Electoral Commission (RIK) has not yet decided on the electoral list of the Albanians of Presheva, Bujanovac and Medvegja for the parliamentary elections of 25 October, as the Serbian newspaper Danas reports. According to the announcement by the chairman of the Party for Democratic Action (PDD), Shaip Kamberi, the list of the “Albanian Coalition” was submitted to RIK late on Sunday evening, shortly before midnight — that is, within the official deadline.
Kamberi announced the submission of the list through a Facebook post, in which he thanked the activists of the political parties for their engagement and every Albanian of the Presheva Valley for their support. He stressed that at a time when many things divide them, the fight against state discrimination against Albanians must unite them all.
“In these elections, for the first time, all united in one list, with the support of the governments of Kosovo and Albania, we continue the fight with the clear aim that the truth of the Valley resounds as strongly as possible,” Kamberi wrote, according to Danas’s reporting.
The PDD leader also assessed that this time there is a real possibility that the Albanians of the Presheva Valley will be represented with more MPs in the Assembly of Serbia.
The deadline for submitting electoral lists expired at midnight, while the summary list must be announced by 9 October at the latest. According to Danas, RIK has so far announced 17 electoral lists, one of which has been withdrawn.
