The Football Association stands firm on the ‘City’ case: The integrity of the game has been damaged
The Football Association took a strong stance this morning on what has happened in recent days with Manchester City, which is accused of having manipulated its declared accounts.
The independent commission’s decision against Manchester City has ‘important implications for the integrity of the game’, according to the Football Association.
In a statement, English football’s governing body added: “We are carefully reviewing the decision and its implications and will take action at an appropriate time.”
The FA’s statement comes after it was confirmed on Tuesday that City was found guilty on all charges relating to breaches of the Premier League’s financial regulations between the 2009-10 and 2017-18 seasons.
City has consistently denied guilt and has until Friday to appear at the Appeal.
“The proceedings between the Premier League and Manchester City Football Club are ongoing, we cannot comment further at this stage,” the FA added.
Sources have told BBC Sport that City is expected to appeal and will defend itself by stating that the main sponsorship agreements were financed by the government of Abu Dhabi and not by other companies owned by the club’s owners.
