“The publication of intimate videos was deliberate”, lawyer: How many years do those responsible risk?

The case of intimate videos that circulated widely on social media was discussed this Thursday, October 1, on the panel of guests on the “Rudina” programme, a case that has sparked much speculation about the reasons that led to their publication.

According to lawyer Margarita Kola, the content of the videos is of no public interest and, for this reason, she believes the motives that led to their publication were entirely malicious and deliberate.

“What worries me is who has an interest in other people’s lives? It is acceptable to report news that shocks public opinion, but only when the public has an interest in such news, because the whole of society is interested and affected. There is a malicious mission. Why has it come out now? Someone must bear responsibility, because they were made deliberately.”

As for the penalties those responsible risk in this case, the lawyer said these criminal offences are relatively newer and are borrowed from foreign legislation.

“The sentencing ranges for such offences, to be honest, are not as high as we consider them. They go from 2-3 years, but it depends whether the person who committed the criminal offence has also committed others, then the sentences will be combined if the criminal offences do not run concurrently.”

Where there is no complaint, the lawyer explained that the investigation can continue only for the distributor of the intimate videos, while for the other criminal offences, they will continue to be investigated only if there is an initiative from the parties involved in the videos.
