“Tirana Fountain Plaza”, the winning project for the transformation of the “Tajvani” complex is unveiled
Bjarke Ingels Group has been declared the winner of the international competition for “Tirana Fountain Plaza”, one of the five architectural visions presented for the Tirana of 2030.
The new building, named “Tirana Fountain Plaza”, is expected to replace the current building of the “Tajvani” complex.
We recall that in the morning hours, Prime Minister Edi Rama was present at the presentation of the five projects submitted under the international competition “Tirana Fountain Tower”.
During his speech, Rama responded to criticism regarding urban development and construction projects in the capital, stressing that nobody is forcibly removed from their home for private investments.
Meanwhile, the head of government rejected claims of a lack of rules and supported the presence of foreign architects in Albania, describing the country as an “open university of architecture”, where local professionals grow alongside international masters.
“It has never happened in Albania that someone is forcibly removed from their home for a private investment to be developed, and no private party has been denied their right to develop or not develop a project. With the squatters who are part of the legalisation processes, even for them the law is very clear and we have never taken the side of the owner or the developer. There is no guarantee that a rental contract will be given to someone else, for a certain number of years, and paid by the developers until the citizen enters the housing programmes run by the municipality,” he said.
