“Titianella” by Juana Romani Breaks Record: Sold for $136,500 at Bonhams, Over 10 Times the Estimate
On Wednesday, September 23, 2026, a special milestone was recorded at the Bonhams auction house in London for Italian artist Juana Romani. Her painting “Titianella” — oil on panel, unsigned and undated — sold for US$136,500 (£102,000), drawing the attention of international collectors.
The price was more than 10 times the initial low estimate and set the artist’s new auction record: US$61,800 more than her previous record, an increase of about 82%.
The previous record was held by the painting “Elegant woman with a ribbon in her hair” (undated), sold for US$74,700 at the Hotel des Ventes de Monte-Carlo on April 4, 2024. Earlier, “Portrait de jeune fille” had sold for US$30,000 at Sotheby’s in New York in October 2004. According to records, “Titianella” has been traded four times before, as reported by HENI.
The work’s title, together with the Venetian Renaissance-style costume, refers to the grandeur of Venetian painting and the master Titian. The painting depicts a portrait of a woman dressed in a red and gold dress, with the artist’s signature placed at the top right.
