“Today They Talk Nonsense in Parliament” — Spaho: The DP Supported the Creation of the Special Court; Berisha Voted in Favor of Its Establishment

Former Democratic Party MP Edmond Spaho has rejected Sali Berisha’s claims, who has stated they were against the establishment of the Special Court in Kosovo.

Spaho, in a post on social media, says that “Berisha, and we who were behind him,” were among the first who “supported the creation of the Hague Tribunal, starting from 2015-2016.”

“We did this convinced that for Kosovo there was no other way but to accept the international verdict, otherwise a UN Tribunal would have been created, which would have penalized Kosovo quite severely. We made this decision after discussions in all the governing bodies of the DP,” says Spaho!

“Starting from the verdict of the Hague Tribunal for the 4 former KLA leaders, today I wrote that the Albanian political class sees every development in Kosovo closely linked to internal developments in Albania and its own narrow benefits. And I believe I was not wrong.

For Albanian politics, what matters is how much it can benefit from political developments in Kosovo. Whether Kosovo benefits from the positions of Albanian political parties matters little to them.

Mr. Berisha, and we who were behind him, are among the first who supported the creation of the Hague Tribunal starting from 2015-2016. So true is what I am expressing that Mr. Berisha not only publicly expressed himself in favor of the creation of the Hague Tribunal, and published on 28.06.2015 the 6 reasons why the Kosovo Parliament should vote for the creation of the Tribunal, but even earlier he had voted in the Council of Europe for the creation of Dick Marty’s special commission to verify the “crimes” that the KLA had committed during the war for the liberation of Kosovo.

Today my ceiling is spinning when I see opposition colleagues who lie and talk nonsense in Parliament. I see those who supported the creation of the Hague Tribunal saying that you didn’t listen to us in 2015 or 2016 when we declared don’t vote for the creation of this court and don’t support it.

How is it possible that we have such a short memory? How is it possible that we allow these individuals to pose today as Cassandras, when in truth they were lined up head to toe for the creation of the Hague Tribunal?

And they did well! This was the only solution in Kosovo’s interest. But how are they not ashamed today, when they take the opposite position only for some internal political benefit. Or is a place on the closed lists for a seat in Parliament enough?

Internal political benefit is only their illusion. And how can citizens believe that they will be serious when tomorrow they hold the keys of Albania in their hands? That is why today they are without a political spine and lose elections, because as the people say, they are a plane without a tail, swirling wherever they can to catch some bone of power. They will always lose, as long as they continue to be hostage to the pathological hunger for power, a hunger which darkens their judgment and makes them ridiculous in the eyes of the Albanian and Kosovar public opinion.”
