Trump announces creation of new artificial intelligence task force
U.S. President Donald Trump has announced the creation of a new task force focused on artificial intelligence, called the “Super Intelligence Force”. It will be headed by the Director of National Intelligence, Jay Clayton.
According to Trump, the new structure aims to coordinate the federal government’s efforts and ensure that the United States continues to lead in the development of advanced artificial intelligence technologies. The task force will cooperate with consumers, public interest groups, religious organisations, critical infrastructure providers and technology companies.
The task force will also include the chairman of the Federal Trade Commission, Andrew Ferguson, the Undersecretary of Defense for Research and Engineering, Emil Michael, and the director of the Office of Personnel Management, Scott Kupor. The structure will report directly to President Trump and the White House chief of staff, Susie Wiles.
The initiative comes a few days after Trump signed, on 29 September, an executive order instructing the federal administration to use the term “Super Intelligence” instead of “Artificial Intelligence” and the acronym “SI” in official executive documents and communications.
The White House has presented this policy as part of efforts to maintain American leadership in advanced technologies, while the new task force is expected to play a role in coordinating government policies and engagement with the private sector and the public.
