Trump officially renames artificial intelligence ‘superintelligence’

U.S. President Donald Trump has signed an executive order officially renaming artificial intelligence “superintelligence.”

He said at the United Nations last week that he preferred the name over “AI,” saying he would rename it because it “sounds much better” and is more accurate.

During today’s announcement, the U.S. president said he had discussed the name with Chinese President Xi Jinping and claimed that “he likes it a lot,” as Sky News reports.

“When you say artificial intelligence, it is artificial. This is not that. This is extreme intelligence, it is superior intelligence. It is supreme,” Trump added.

“But the word ‘super’ is the best word of all. And it is the simplest, so we will call it ‘superintelligence,'” he said.

The U.S. leader compared the term “artificial intelligence” to the term “fake news,” before telling the reporters present that he “could call them artificial too.”

“I think I found a new name… ‘Fake news’ is one of my best terms, but now I will call them ‘artificial news,'” Trump concluded.
