Trump: Ukraine and Russia Agreed Not to Strike Energy Targets
U.S. President Donald Trump said today that Ukraine and Russia have agreed to a mutual halt of attacks on energy targets.
In a post on his Truth Social platform, the American president also claimed that rising oil prices worldwide are “largely due to the Russia-Ukraine war and not Iran.”
“Ukraine agreed not to hit Russian energy targets. Russia agreed to do the same! The rise in oil prices around the world is largely due to the Russia-Ukraine war, not Iran,” he wrote.
At the end of August, Russia announced it was preparing “massive strikes” against Ukraine’s energy sector facilities, at a time when large-scale attacks between the two countries had escalated.
On Sunday, Trump called on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to stop attacks on Russian oil refineries and other infrastructure used for oil production and distribution, arguing the strikes were causing a global shortage.
His intervention came after oil prices hit a record high in the U.S. on Friday, when the average price exceeded $6 per gallon.
