“Two Strangers (Carry a Cake Across New York)” to close on Broadway in November — final performance set for November 29 at the Longacre Theatre

One of Broadway’s newest original musicals is saying goodbye to New York. The romantic comedy musical “Two Strangers (Carry a Cake Across New York)” will play its final performance on November 29, 2026, at the Longacre Theatre, producers announced on September 16. On closing night, the production will have played 21 previews and 428 regular performances.

The show, with book, music and lyrics by Jim Barne and Kit Buchan, and direction and choreography by Tim Jackson, told the story of Dougal, an optimistic Briton who arrives in New York for the wedding of a father he has never met, and Robin, the no-nonsense, uncompromising sister of the bride. On their way to collect the wedding cake, the two strangers embark on an unexpected adventure across the city.

On Broadway, the show starred Olivier Award winner Sam Tutty in his Broadway debut as Dougal, and Christiani Pitts as Robin — both Tony nominees. Tutty originated the role of Dougal in London, at the Kiln Theatre and later in the West End at the Criterion Theatre, while Pitts joined the production for its North American premiere at the American Repertory Theater.

“”Two Strangers (Carry a Cake Across New York)” is an extraordinarily special and original story, and an unreserved love letter to the city of New York,” the producers said in a statement. “Bringing this show to Broadway was a leap of faith, and audiences welcomed us with open arms. We are forever grateful to the entire creative team for their beautiful work, and to the extraordinary cast — led by Christiani and Sam — and the crew, who carried the cake every night at the Longacre.”

With this step, the New York chapter closes for a musical that earned eight Tony nominations at the 2026 edition, including Best Musical. But the Broadway finale is not the end of the road: the show’s first national tour will launch next year, opening in Providence, Rhode Island.
