Vienna Joins Diaspora Protests Against Conviction of Former KLA Leaders

After protests in Germany, Switzerland, Canada and the United States of America, the Albanian diaspora has also mobilized in Vienna, Austria, where a protest was held today against the guilty verdict for former leaders of the Kosovo Liberation Army.

The protest in the Austrian capital began at 2 p.m., with a large number of Albanians gathering with red-and-black flags and KLA flags.

The protesters called for the release of the former KLA leaders, using slogans such as “Freedom has a name”, “Not in my name” and “Freedom for Kosovo’s liberators”.

The diaspora mobilization comes after the decision of the Kosovo Specialist Chambers, announced on September 16, by which former president Hashim Thaçi and former parliament speaker Jakup Krasniqi were sentenced to 25 years in prison each, Kadri Veseli to 18 years, and Rexhep Selimi to 13 years.

Similar protests have taken place in recent days in other European cities as well.
