Where Do the 4.28 Million Albanian Citizens Born in Albania Live?

According to Civil Registry data, around 4.7 million Albanian citizens are currently registered in its records. Of them, around 4.28 million were born in Albania and around 0.42 million were born outside it (see chart 1).

According to INSTAT data, around 2.35 million Albanian citizens live in Albania. So around 1.93 million who were born in Albania live outside it (see chart 2).

But how have these numbers changed over the decades?

Combining the Civil Registry’s and INSTAT’s numbers across the decades shows that around 917,000 Albanian citizens born here left the country in 1990–2001, around 495,000 in 2001–2011, and around 488,000 in 2011–2026 (see chart 3).
