Yemen’s Houthis: we struck “sensitive targets” in Riyadh — Saudi Arabia still silent
Yemen’s Houthi armed forces announced Saturday that they have struck “sensitive targets” in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia. The announcement was made through their spokesman, Ameen Hayyan, who said the strikes were carried out in response to what the group calls Saudi “aggression” against Yemen.
Saudi Arabia has not yet confirmed any information from the Houthi statement, and details of the alleged attack remain unclear. Al Jazeera reported it would bring more details as new information emerges.
The alleged strike comes amid a sharp escalation between the two sides. In the past week alone, according to the Houthis themselves, Saudi aviation has carried out more than 450 airstrikes against areas under their control, while the Iran-backed group has hit Saudi cities such as Khamis Mushait, Yanbu and the Abha airport with missiles and drones.
The situation remains extremely tense on the maritime front as well: the Houthis claim control of Bab al-Mandeb and most of the Red Sea coastline, while Saudi Arabia and Yemeni government forces try to retake positions with coalition support.
