A24 Returns to Marcus Theatres After Deal — End of the Months-Long Dispute

On September 17, 2026, the American studio A24 and the Marcus Theatres cinema chain announced they have reached a new agreement, ending a months-long dispute that had kept the studio’s films out of Marcus cinemas.

The dispute had blocked the screening of highly anticipated titles such as “Tony,” “The Invite” and “Onslaught” at Marcus locations across the United States. Marcus Theatres, headquartered in Milwaukee, is the fourth-largest cinema chain in the U.S., with 975 screens at 77 locations in 17 states.

The turnaround came unexpectedly: just a day earlier, on September 16, a Marcus spokesperson had told the “Milwaukee Journal Sentinel” that “the proposed film terms for showing various A24 films in our cinemas are economically unsustainable,” adding that the company “remains open to talks.”

After the deal, the Marcus spokesperson said: “Marcus Theatres’ continued box office successes and record results underscore how much moviegoers value watching great films on the big screen” — confirming that the two companies “have reached mutually acceptable terms.”

Marcus recently reported record summer revenue thanks to rising attendance, which lifted the company’s stock by nearly 19%.

For moviegoers, the news comes at the right time: “Primetime,” one of A24’s most anticipated films, starring Robert Pattinson, opens in cinemas next week, on September 25, and tickets are expected on sale “very soon.”
