Nations League / Berisha “betrays” Albania, Walta and the episodes condemn the red-and-blacks
At the “Helsinki Olympic Stadium”, Rolando Maran’s Albania, although they leave without a single point, come away with their heads held high after being beaten in a duel decided by episodes.
The home side’s hero was Walta, who punished Sherri twice with two set pieces in the 26th and 71st minutes.
The red-and-blacks started the match very well, taking the lead in the opening minutes thanks to Manaj. After just four minutes of play, the Sivasspor striker finished into the net a cross from Asllani’s corner.
Albania had the game under control until the 22nd minute, when Berisha was forced to intervene outside the area to stop the opponent, who had taken advantage of the goalkeeper’s mistaken pass.
Referee Hennessy, decided, showed him the red card, leaving Albania with one player fewer for almost 75 minutes of play.
The Irishman became the protagonist of the match after, in the 80th minute, he did not award a clear penalty in Albania’s favour. Uzuni took the ball well on the left flank while his opponent rushed in and fouled him. Hennessy did not share that view and, supported also by VAR, decided not to award a penalty.
After three matches, Albania hold second place in Group 1 of Nations League League C with 6 points, while Finland lead with 7. A.V.
