After Constitutional Court Ruling, Supreme Court Reviews Erion Veliaj’s Security Measure Today

The Supreme Court is reviewing today the security measure against Tirana Mayor Erion Veliaj. The hearing is being held in the Deliberation Chamber.

Under review is the “prison arrest” measure, imposed on Veliaj as part of SPAK’s investigations. The case has returned to the Supreme Court after the Constitutional Court’s ruling, which requested a review of the proportionality of the security measure.

The Supreme Court will examine the parties’ arguments and the circumstances of the case, to determine whether the arrest measure will continue or be changed.

Erion Veliaj has been in pre-trial detention for months.

At the end of the review, the Court will decide whether “prison arrest” will remain in force or be replaced with another security measure.
