Albania urged to engage more on the case of former KLA leaders
Public and political figures have called on Albania for concrete steps and a dedicated budget for the appeal process of former KLA leaders at the Specialist Chambers in The Hague, as Koha.net reports. The calls were made during a public event, where it was emphasized that Tirana must engage more seriously in defending the former leaders of the Kosovo Liberation Army.
Albanian opposition MP Mesila Doda announced she will reintroduce a resolution on this issue in Albania’s parliament. According to Koha.net, Doda emphasized that the resolution aims to create an institutional framework for supporting the appeal process and securing the necessary funds.
The former KLA leaders are in judicial proceedings in The Hague, while the appeal phase is expected to bring considerable costs. Representatives of civil society and politics have assessed that Albania’s engagement so far has been insufficient and have called for a more coordinated approach between Tirana and Prishtina.
The reactions come at a time when the issue of the former KLA leaders remains one of the most sensitive political topics in Kosovo and Albania, while the debate on the resolution in Albania’s parliament is expected to reopen in the coming days.
