Amorim raises the bar at Milan: ‘We aim to reach the Europa League final!’
The Portuguese coach is not hiding ahead of his European debut against Benfica: “We know it will be difficult, but we want to go all the way.”
Almost everything is ready at Milan for the Europa League debut against Benfica. Coach Ruben Amorim stressed at the press conference that his team seeks to go all the way to the final of the competition: “It is something essential, we are talking about the debut in the Europa League. Milan–Benfica is a symbolic match at the European level. I have a past at Benfica, Rui Costa, who today is its president, was at Milan.”
“In every competition we want to win, we have no minimal objective. We have a strong squad, with alternatives. Everyone must be ready. Our objective is to win as many matches as possible and to go all the way in all competitions. It will not be easy, but all the possibilities are there to win every match and every competition.
“I find it difficult to say we have a typical starting 11. Our objective is to give the team an identity, so that we can rotate without losing efficiency and quality of play.
“Modrić? Many people seem to have different opinions about players. After the match with Juventus nobody wanted Moreiran, after the match with Lazio he became a hero. Modrić is important for us, I know his value and characteristics well. He will be useful, when we need to keep the match under control and have possession of the ball. Hutchinson? He can play tomorrow, he is in form and can get minutes.”
