Belgrade Law Faculty Student Summoned for ‘Informative Talk’ by Police, a Day After Submitting Election List to the REC
Students in blockade at the Faculty of Law of the University of Belgrade announced today that one of their colleagues was summoned to a “friendly informative talk” by the police, just one day after they submitted to the Republic Electoral Commission (RIK) the list “Studentska lista – studenti pobeđuju” (“The Student List – The Students Win”).
In an Instagram post, the students declared that “pressures of this nature continue even during the election campaign, but this does not surprise us at all.” “We are not afraid and we know well what we are doing,” they write, assessing that such actions only “confirm that the authorities are well aware of the strength we have and the support we enjoy.”
The night before the list was submitted, students and citizens organized a protest march from the Rectorate of the University of Belgrade to the RIK building, where they submitted the signatures collected for the electoral list of the citizens’ group “Studentska lista – Studenti pobeđuju.”
This is the latest episode in a series of pressures against the student movement in Serbia, which for months has kept dozens of faculties in blockade and demands accountability for the Novi Sad tragedy, electoral reform and an end to corruption.
