Brussels – Von der Leyen: the US will not halt oil exports
BRUSSELS, 2 October /ATSH-DPA/ – European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has expressed relief after the agreement of the G7 countries on the immediate use of strategic oil reserves, in case of need.
“We welcome the decision of the G7 countries not to impose export bans against allied countries, as well as the continuing solidarity among partners,” Von der Leyen wrote today on the X platform.
At the end of September, US President Donald Trump declared that he was considering the possibility of banning oil exports, a measure that would also affect European countries.
“We support the coordinated release of fuel reserves, in cooperation with the International Energy Agency (IEA),” Von der Leyen said.
She stressed that citizens need and deserve energy at affordable prices.
“As the G7, we will coordinate closely to achieve this goal,” she added.
The G7 consists of Germany, France, the United Kingdom, the USA, Japan, Italy and Canada. France currently holds the presidency of the group.
