Fire in Lesbos: flames engulf vegetation in Kalloni, 25 firefighters and 8 vehicles deployed

A fire broke out on Sunday evening in low vegetation in the Kalloni area on the island of Lesbos, as reported by Newsit. The flames erupted on the outskirts of the area and put fire services and residents on alert.

According to ProtoThema, the fire service was notified at around 20:00 local Greek time. The blaze started in low vegetation and, due to the drought, tended to spread rapidly.

A large force has been mobilized to extinguish the flames. As Skai reports, 25 firefighters, a ground team of the 12th EMODE unit and 8 fire engines are at the scene, working to bring the fire front under control.

So far there is no information on damage to homes or injured persons, but the extinguishing operation is ongoing and authorities remain on full alert for any development.
