History in Augsburg: Kourbelis sinks Germany as Greece stays perfect atop the Nations League
Greece wrote history tonight at Augsburg’s WWK Arena, beating Germany 1-0 in the second match of Group 2 of the UEFA Nations League’s League A.
The game’s only goal was scored by Dimitris Kourbelis in the 74th minute, as Novasports reports, with a strike from the edge of the box following a move started by Tzolis and a deflection off Kimmich that left the German goalkeeper with no chance.

Jürgen Klopp’s Germany dominated roughly the first 60 minutes but ran into a wall named Konstantinos Tzolakis. The Greek goalkeeper made three big saves, denying Adeyemi in the 31st and 49th minutes as well as Kimmich, while Adeyemi also missed a one-on-one in the 20th minute, according to Sportradar data. The “Panzer” had control of the game but could not find the way to goal.
The victory is of historic proportions: according to pressaris.gr, Greece had never beaten Germany before — this is the first win in history over the “Panzer.” A night that will be remembered for a long time in Athens and across Greece.
With this success, Ivan Jovanović’s side makes it two from two in the group, both away wins: after Serbia–Greece 1-2 on September 24 in Belgrade, came Germany–Greece 0-1 tonight. With six points, Greece stands alone at the top of the group and aims for qualification to the Nations League quarter-finals.
For Jürgen Klopp, this was his first defeat as Germany coach. The match was refereed by English referee Chris Kavanagh. Greece now awaits its next matches to seal a quarter-final ticket.
