First trailer for “Day Drinker” drops: Johnny Depp nearly unrecognizable with gray hair and blue lenses; Penélope Cruz and Madelyn Cline in Marc Webb’s thriller

Lionsgate released today (September 24, 2026) the first official trailer for the action thriller “Day Drinker,” directed by Marc Webb.

Johnny Depp looks nearly unrecognizable: long gray hair, a full beard and mustache, bright blue contact lenses — the actor’s new dramatic transformation.

According to the official synopsis: a bartender (Madelyn Cline) on a private yacht meets the mysterious guest on board (Johnny Depp); soon they become entangled with a criminal figure (Penélope Cruz) and turn out to be connected in ways no one anticipated. The Playlist describes it as a revenge thriller with criminal, mystery and supernatural elements; TheWrap notes “John Wick”-style revenge undertones.

For Depp and Cruz this is their fourth on-screen reunion after “Blow,” “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” and “Murder on the Orient Express.” The Hollywood Reporter calls it another step in Depp’s Hollywood comeback; “Day Drinker” will be Depp’s second major film from a major distributor since 2018 (after “Jeanne du Barry”), and in November he also returns in Ti West’s “Ebenezer.”
