Germany – RIAS: 564 antisemitic incidents with an Islamic background
BERLIN, September 30 /ATSH-DPA/ – German monitoring centres recorded 564 antisemitic incidents with a background defined as “Islamic” during the period 2019–2025, according to a report published today.
The data were collected by RIAS (the Federal Association of Departments for Research and Information on Antisemitism).
In total, the organisation documented more than 31,200 antisemitic incidents in Germany during these seven years.
Incidents with an Islamic background made up around 1.8% of the total.
RIAS described this as a relatively low percentage.
By comparison, 17.4% of the incidents were attributed to anti-Israel activism, while 11.7% were attributed to right-wing extremism.
In around 55% of cases, RIAS said it was not possible to clearly determine the motive or background of the incident.
However, the report notes an important difference in the severity of the incidents.
Cases classified as having an Islamic background were more likely to involve threats, physical attacks or extreme violence.
In this category, these more serious forms made up 15.1% of the incidents, compared with 6.1% of all the antisemitic incidents recorded by RIAS.
Of the 564 incidents with an Islamic background, 15.1% involved threats, attacks or extreme violence.
Of the total of more than 31,200 antisemitic incidents, only 6.1% involved these more serious forms. /Ad.Ab./ a.jor.
