Gjini slams the government: milk imports have risen by 1 million liters a month
The leader of the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo, Ardian Gjini, sharply criticized the government over the situation in the dairy sector, declaring that milk imports to Kosovo have risen by about 1 million liters a month, as Klan Kosova reports.
In his interview on Klan Kosova’s “Rubikon” show, Gjini accused the government of failing to protect local producers, who are losing ground to import competition.
Kosovo’s dairy sector has long faced difficulties: in 2025 alone, imports of dairy products reached about 89.8 million euros, while every year around 28 million liters of fresh milk are imported into the local market.
Farmers have repeatedly demanded protective measures and intervention from institutions, warning that unfair competition and high production costs are threatening the economic viability of local farms.
Gjini’s statements come at a time when the debate over protecting local production has returned to the center of public attention, following the government’s measures to restrict palm oil and powdered milk in the processing industry.
