He broke house arrest and robbed 16 premises: 34-year-old with prior theft record arrested in Tirana

A 34-year-old man was put in handcuffs by Tirana police this Thursday as the author of 16 theft cases at premises in the capital, stealing sums of money.

According to the police report, Ergi Gjeçi, 34, was arrested; he was under house arrest for the same offense. The 34-year-old is reported to have committed the thefts during August and September.

“As a result of investigative actions carried out on the basis of reports from administrators of premises in various areas of the capital, regarding break-in thefts of products and sums of money from establishments, the services of Police Stations No. 1, No. 2, No. 3 and No. 4 finalized the operation codenamed ‘Broken Door,’ during which the suspected author of 16 of these cases, citizen E. Gj., 34, was detained by the services of Station No. 1.

From these actions, the detainee is suspected of having, during August–September 2026, stolen by break-in sums of money and products from 8 premises in the jurisdiction of Station No. 2, 4 premises in the jurisdiction of Station No. 3, 2 premises in the jurisdiction of Station No. 1 and 2 premises in the jurisdiction of Station No. 4.

Further verifications showed the 34-year-old was under the security measure ‘house arrest’ for the criminal offense of ‘theft.’

Investigations continue to fully uncover and document the criminal activity of citizen E. Gj. in the field of thefts.

The procedural materials were referred to the Prosecution for further action.”
