“I Had Thieves in the House, One of Them Is Dead”: Albanian Killed While Trying to Rob a Home in Italy — His 112 Call Made Public

“Good evening, I’m Roberto Mollo. I had thieves in the house, I defended myself… one of them is dead.” These are the first words of the call that a 35-year-old from Baldissero d’Alba, in the province of Cuneo in Italy, made to the 112 emergency number after shooting at a group of robbers who tried to break into his home.

The incident happened in the early hours of Sunday morning, September 20. According to investigators, Roberto Mollo, who works as a truck driver, fired 13 shots at people attempting a burglary in a house under renovation where he was living.

One of the bullets struck 36-year-old Gjovalin Lasri, who lost his life.

Mollo’s call to 112 was made public by “Tg1,” where he can be heard explaining the situation to the operator.

“I was scared, I’m desperate. They were moving around inside my house,” he can be heard saying.

The call then passed to the carabinieri, whom the 35-year-old told that he was armed and had reacted in self-defense.

“I am armed, I defended myself. Now there is a person on the ground, I don’t know if he is dead,” he said.

When asked whether he had fired a gun, Mollo answered: “Yes, I shot at them.”

“This person was masked, he was outside in the courtyard. I closed the door, but I got scared and shot,” he added.

According to Italian authorities, 36-year-old Gjovalin Lasri was found near the courtyard exit of the house. He was wearing a hood, gloves, and carrying a flashlight.

During the search, a screwdriver was found in his pockets, while he had about 2,000 euros on him. Investigators are checking whether the money could be linked to other robberies, Corriere writes.

According to initial suspicions, the group that acted in Baldissero d’Alba may have been part of a gang of “mobile burglars” who travel through different areas and carry out several thefts in the same night.

The investigation continues to fully clarify the dynamics of the incident, while authorities are trying to identify the other people suspected of having been part of the group.
