Introduced in Romania: Black Card in Football, Referee Punishes the Child’s Parent
In youth football, the black card will not be shown to players, but… to parents and fans in the stands.
The Romanian Football Federation has introduced a new measure for categories from U7 to U16, with the aim of stopping insulting, aggressive behavior or excessive pressure from adults during children’s matches.
The procedure starts with a warning. The referee temporarily stops the match and asks coaches to calm the parents and fans.
If the situation continues, the match is suspended for 10 minutes and the teams leave the field.
But if, even after the return, the abusive behavior does not stop, the final moment comes: the referee shows the black card and the match is definitively interrupted.
An unusual innovation, but with a clear message: children’s football must be a space for fun, development and respect, not for the pressure or frustrations of adults.
