Iranian Admiral Sayyari: Hormuz is “under our full control” — despite the enemy’s rhetoric
A senior Iranian military official has doubled down on Tehran’s claim of command over the strategic Strait of Hormuz. “Despite the enemy’s rhetoric, the fact is that the Strait of Hormuz is under our full control,” said Admiral Habibollah Sayyari, chief of staff of the Iranian army, as Al Jazeera reports.
Sayyari added that Iran “acts decisively in the north of the Sea of Oman and east of the Strait of Hormuz and lets no one pass.” According to him, “the west of the Strait of Hormuz, the strait itself and the Persian Gulf are under the full control” of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps navy, while “the east of the strait and the north of the Indian Ocean are under the full control” of Iran’s regular navy.
The statement comes as the United States has rejected the Iranian plan for a seven-day ceasefire to reopen Hormuz to maritime trade, prolonging the deadlock over ending the war. Washington insists the strait is open under its protection and that U.S. forces have assisted thousands of ship transits in recent months — a claim Tehran openly rejects.
