‘Marubi’ joins ‘Archivi Aperti 2026’: Italian initiative reaches Albania for the first time
The Archivi Aperti (Open Archives) initiative, dedicated to photographic archives and heritage across 12 Italian regions, will cross borders for the first time with the participation of Albania’s National Museum of Photography “Marubi”.
In this way, “Marubi”, the newest member of Rete Fotografia, becomes part of the 12th edition of Archivi Aperti, running October 16–25 and bringing together museums, archives and photographic institutions. With this expansion beyond Italy’s borders, Archivi Aperti brings Shkodër and its photographic heritage into an international dialogue.
This edition will explore the theme “Reflected identities: society through photography”, inviting reflection on photography’s power to document, interpret and build a society’s memory.
“A photographic archive preserves not only images: it preserves faces, places, events, transformations and stories that, together, form our collective memory. Preserving, studying and opening these archives lets us re-read the past from new perspectives and bring to light stories and viewpoints that may have remained invisible,” says “Marubi”.
The “Marubi” museum said its inclusion in this international map places Shkodër in a new dialogue on photography, archives and memory. From Italy to Albania, photography becomes the bridge connecting memory, territory and identity. “Marubi” said it will soon publish its full program for Archivi Aperti 2026.
