Këlliçi demands Rama’s immediate resignation: a fundamental condition for resolving the all-encompassing crisis that has gripped and devastated the country
The Democratic Party has formally demanded the immediate resignation of Prime Minister Edi Rama, calling it the fundamental condition for resolving the political and institutional crisis in the country. In a media statement on behalf of the blue headquarters, DP deputy leader Belind Këlliçi criticized the head of government’s latest public appearance from Rinas Airport, calling it a “self-degrading monologue” to avoid journalists’ questions.
According to Këlliçi, Rama’s speech after returning from the UN General Assembly in New York showed political isolation and an attempt to protect his associates investigated or accused of corruption and violations of the law.
Accusations over the protection of senior officials and SHISH
During his statement, the opposition representative dwelled on the prime minister’s stance toward the leaders of important state institutions, including the Director of the State Intelligence Service, Vlora Hyseni, as well as former deputy prime minister Belinda Balluku.
“In his monologue, Rama played lawyer for Vlora Hyseni. This proves he is hostage to the officials who placed the State Intelligence Service institution and national security at the service of certain interests. Today every Albanian sees in this governance a model of abuse of power,” said Belind Këlliçi, deputy leader of the Democratic Party.
The opposition listed a series of financial files and affairs which, it said, weigh directly on the prime minister’s figure. Këlliçi mentioned the concession processes in healthcare (sterilization and check-up), the Durrës Port project, the Tirana incinerator case, as well as the blocking of the opposition’s requests for parliamentary investigative commissions.
“You, Edi Rama, are the man who signed for the Tirana incinerator and are the true author of the healthcare concessions, through which hundreds of millions of euros were embezzled. You are the only prime minister who has used parliamentary mandates to block justice and protect infrastructure files, from the Llogara tunnel to the Great Ring Road,” Këlliçi said.
He concluded the statement by emphasizing that the Democratic Party will continue its denunciations and political action until the current government leaves and conditions are created for free and fair elections.
